Radiesthesia: what it is,

how it works and what it is used for

Gift of sensitivity at the service of humanity

‍Dowsing is a holistic investigation carried out both in nature and on the human body, with the aim of preventing disorders and illnesses.

‍What is Dowsing?

‍The word radiesthesia (or radioesthesia) comes from two roots: the Latin radius (“ray”) and the Greek aisthesis (“sensitivity” or “perception”). Although coined in the early 1920s, this practice dates back much earlier, to around 2500 B.C., and was used in the East, particularly in China and ancient Egypt. In the West, starting from France, it later spread throughout Europe and America.

‍Radiesthesia is a practice based on the detection of radiations emitted by every body or substance, allowing one to discover hidden materials, determine their location, nature, type, quality, and the influence they exert on each other. According to this theory, all bodies emit radiations that can be perceived and interpreted using specific tools or instruments.

‍In 1913, French abbot Mermet presented, for the first time in Paris, a new tool: the pendulum. A sufficiently sensitive person, using radiesthesia, can analyze the body’s energy and, in particular, the chakras. The “radiesthetic sense” is not considered “spiritualistic,” but rather a perfectly natural faculty, latent in everyone and developed to varying degrees in many.

‍The practitioner of radiesthesia is called a radiesthesist. They are not a doctor, which means they are free to carry out their research and investigations on an individual’s condition, but cannot provide diagnoses, prescribe medications, or request medical tests. Radiesthesia makes use of different instruments such as the pendulum, the wooden rod, the Lecher antenna, and the bio-tensor. These tools help explore natural elements like water and minerals, making the practice useful in fields ranging from agriculture to ecology, as well as in investigations concerning the human body.

‍Medical radiesthesia, working on the etheric body—composed of pure energies and light—aims to identify, prevent, and eventually treat energetic imbalances, considered the root of any physical disorder. Yogic masters teach that the etheric body contains many energy centers, the most important being the 7 chakras, or “energy vortices,” located along the spine: the base of the spine, the navel, the spleen, the heart, the throat, the eyebrows, and the crown of the head. Using a chart that represents them, the pendulum or other tool is moved over each chakra to determine whether it functions correctly or shows an imbalance in excess or deficiency.

‍Examining the etheric body is considered important because illnesses are thought to manifest there before appearing on the physical plane, thus allowing prevention and orientation toward appropriate holistic therapies. An experienced and sensitive practitioner can even examine a patient from thousands of kilometers away.

‍What disorders can dowsing address?

‍All elements that disturb or distort the correct human energetic balance can be investigated through radiesthesia. It is therefore applied mainly for preventive assessment of a person’s energetic health, in order to determine their vital level, the proper functioning of their chakras, overall health condition, allergies and intolerances, psychosomatic difficulties, mind-body interactions, and the nature and origin of their disorders.

‍Who is dowsing for?

‍Radiesthesia (or radioesthesia) is intended for all those who wish to consciously understand their own body, identify energetic dysfunctions that may be at the root of certain symptoms—sometimes not fully explained by conventional medicine. Like any alternative therapy, radiesthesia must be approached with common sense: it should never be considered a substitute for medical consultation or, even less, for medical treatment. In the presence of illnesses, it is essential to follow the therapies prescribed by one’s doctor.

‍The Law in Italy and Abroad

‍In Italy, radiesthesia is not formally prohibited, but it is not recognized as a medical or scientific discipline. This means that the radiesthesist, like any holistic practitioner, is free to provide their consultation, in compliance with consumer protection laws. They cannot, however, guarantee specific health results, nor prescribe therapies.

‍Associations and Reference Bodies

‍The most well-known association of radiesthesia is the AIR – Associazione Italiana Radiestesisti (Italian Association of Radiesthesists), which was founded to:

‍Encourage, support, guide, and oversee research in all fields of radiesthesia;

‍Direct the study of radiesthesia toward a rational approach;

‍Verify and validate announced results and ensure their dissemination;

‍Officially represent Italian radiesthesia at the international level.

‍Energetic assessment of the 7 chakras and their blockages

‍Stress level evaluation

‍Reading of PCR (C-reactive protein) blood inflammation marker

‍Investigation of the emotional cause of disease and its intensity

‍Detection of dysfunctions in specific areas of the body: organs, vertebrae, systems

‍Research of intolerances and allergies

‍Identification of the most suitable herbal remedies

‍Reading of thyroid parameters: FT3, FT4, TSH

‍Cholesterol level reading

‍Evaluation of traumas and personal issues

‍Vitamin deficiencies analysis

‍pH reading

‍Identification of favorable stones or crystals

‍Environmental energetic assessments can also be conducted for homes, buildings, or workplaces, including:

‍Identification of subtle energetic disturbances such as water veins, grids, or energy nodes

‍Investigation of plant issues and nutrient deficiencies

‍Underground water detection

‍GAS Random readings

‍Additional requests beyond those listed above can also be considered.
